BalconyTV relaunches at Randlords
Randlords was chosen as the perfect venue to showcase Johannesburg’s scenic skyline, as well as the country’s music talent, because of its amazing 360-degree views. – Julian von Plato, BalconyTV Johannesburg producer
BalconyTV – a YouTube music channel that features musicians from around the world performing on scenic balconies – has selected Randlords as one of the venues for its global network. This rooftop venue in Braamfontein, with its incredible views of Johannesburg, is an ideal location for BalconyTV.
Julian von Plato of SSTREAMM, a digital content production company, is the BalconyTV Johannesburg producer who launched the concept in South Africa some 12 months ago. According to Von Plato, ‘Randlords was chosen as the perfect venue to showcase Johannesburg's scenic skyline, as well as the country’s music talent, because of its amazing 360-degree views.’ The BalconyTV team initially shot material from Tanz Cafe in Fourways, as well as the SkyLine Rooftop gardens.
He says BalconyTV will do much to promote local talent on an international scale: ‘Johannesburg is just one of over 40 [BalconyTV] cities around the world. The aim is showcase SA talent to the world through this unique platform – the YouTube channel has already been featured in many YouTube presentations as one of the worldwide channels to watch.'
He points out that the channel experienced over 50-million views when A-list artists such as The Script and Jessie J performed.
Von Plato says the BalconyTV concept was originally started by a young Irishman named Stephen O'Regan six years ago. The production team has steadily built a unique catalogue of South Africa’s amazing talent, with over 70 performances that include the likes of Shadow Club, The Fridge, Lonehill Estate, Josie Field and many more. Exciting artists such as Newtons 2nd Law, McCree and Uju are already lined up for 2013.
Johannesburg is the launch pad for BalconyTV in South Africa, but Von Plato says there are plans to launch in Durban and Cape Town later this year.
