Augrabies flat lizards
A movement near your feet on the Augrabies Falls boardwalk. Suddenly a small, feisty and impossibly colourful lizard pops into focus. This is Broadley’s flat lizard, which lives in little groups where rivalries and territory are all linked to their techni-colour markings. At night they forget their feuds and cuddle up together.

Waterfall Bluff, Eastern Cape
One of the high points of the legendary Wild Coast Hiking Trail is a stop-over at Waterfall Bluff near the Mkambathi Nature Reserve. Next to it stands the pyramid-shaped Cathedral Rock. Hikers on this trail sometimes witness the incredible Sardine Run, dubbed by a filmmaker as ‘the greatest shoal on Earth’.

Nieuwoudtville Falls, Northern Cape
The Nieuwoudtville Falls are found north of the lovely little town of Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape’s Great Karoo. Spectacular after good summer rains, they are formed where the Doring River drops 100m down to a rock pool. Picnic by the falls or stay overnight at the camping site.

Mac Mac Falls, Mpumalanga

Elands River Falls, Mpumalanga
Find the Elands River Falls at Emgwenya - Waterval Boven as it used to be known. Waterval Boven derives its original Dutch name from the falls; in English it means 'over the waterfall'. Berlin Falls, Mpumalanga

Mkhambathi Nature Reserve
Mkhambathi Nature Reserve (sometimes spelled Mkambati) is an exceptional nature reserve along the Wild Coast. It falls within the Pondoland Centre of Endemism, a botanically biodiverse hotspot. But that hardly conveys its wonders, including antelope-dappled grasslands, a waterfall into the sea, Cape vultures, and a beautiful coastline.
