Did you know?

The Wilderness region is home to the Garden Route's unique wetlands ecosystem.

With its spectacular scenery of mountains, forests and sea, the Garden Route is a major draw-card for visitors. If you base yourself at Wilderness Boardwalk Lodge, you’ll be perfectly positioned to enjoy the best the Garden Route has to offer.

Wilderness Boardwalk Lodge is named after the well-known boardwalk that stretches along the Wilderness section of the Garden Route.

Environmentally friendly – the contemporary Knysna timber buildings of the lodge are linked by wooden boardwalks and harmonise beautifully with the lovely natural surroundings – you’ll find yourself cradled by surrounding indigenous forest. The lodge’s owners not only took great care to conserve the indigenous flora, but they also went about the mammoth task of eliminating alien vegetation.

Because the lodge is built on steep slopes, prepare yourself for a lot of steps, but when you reach your bird's-eye eyrie, the views of the lagoons and the glittering Indian Ocean will take a few more breaths away.

Choose between self-catering, fully equipped and serviced cabins (the lodge will do your grocery shopping for you if you wish) or treat yourself to a luxury suite or room – all with fabulous views. There's a rim pool, a restaurant, a spa, tumultuous birdsong and many varied trails available.

The lodge's registered tour guide will take you on the Forest Buzzard Short Hike – a 45-minute walk at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountain. Or you can opt for the longer Giant Kingfisher Trail that meanders along the Touw River to a beautiful waterfall – a perfect spot to chill out and cool down.

If you're feeling really lazy but need to stretch those legs after a day or 2 touring, then take a 30-minute stroll to Pepsi Pools, named for the colour of the water.

Or just relax and enjoy the tranquillity and views.
