Unpretentious and close to nature, the North West province has a number of attractive wedding venues for couples looking for somewhere wild to say ‘I do.’ Choose between bushveld lodges, country venues in the Magaliesberg mountains or five-star hospitality at Sun City.

Did you know?

With its progressive Constitution, South Africa was the first country in Africa to legalise same-sex marriage.

The beauty and diversity of North West province, along with its proximity to Gauteng, make it an attractive option for weddings, both small and large. You can choose from country settings in the Magaliesberg, a bush wedding in a game reserve or opulence at the famous Sun City.

A bush wedding is an authentically African affair, and weddings in North West province can offer an experience that is close to nature.

There are many small, private game reserves – some just an hour from Johannesburg – that are well-equipped for weddings. These include venues like the well-known Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge next door to the Pilanesberg National Park, or the Askari Game Lodge in Plumari Private Game Reserve.

In addition, the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, the fourth-largest game reserve in the country, has dozens of luxury lodges where you can combine a safari holiday with an idyllic wedding setting for you and your guests.

The province is also home to the Sun City Resort and the extravagant Palace of the Lost City. Located next to the Pilanesberg, this holiday and entertainment complex is famous for its world-class golf courses, casinos and hotels. Sun City offers comprehensive wedding packages at various indoor and outdoor venues. There is a bushveld boma, a chapel with a mountain backdrop and the five-star opulence of the Palace of the Lost City.

Closer to Johannesburg and Pretoria, Hartbeespoort Dam and the surrounding area of Kosmos, in particular, are peppered with boutique hotels, lodges and guest houses, making it a convenient wedding destination for guests who need to fly in for the event. Its proximity to Gauteng’s big cities also means that there are experienced wedding service providers close by to help you plan your event.

Other destinations for weddings in North West province include lodges in Swartruggens, in the heart of the province’s agricultural belt, and in the Magaliesberg, where venues like Whispering Pines Country Estate, Usiba Country Lodge, Valley Lodge and Magalies Manor all have gorgeous gardens, catering facilities and accommodation for you and your guests.

Ifafa and Brits, as well as other small towns in the province like Groot Marico, Lichtenburg and Klerksdorp, are able to cater for small, relaxed, country-style weddings with lots of local flavour.

And, on the southern border of the province, there are exclusive Vaal River resorts that can host riverside and country weddings.
