The Red Shed Craft Workshop
Did you know?
There are two more craft markets at the V&A Waterfront – the Barrows Court and the V&A Craft Market and Wellness Centre.
For an eclectic range of African art and curios, décor items, jewellery, clothing and accessories, take a turn at the Red Shed Craft Workshop, a market in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. The location makes for weather-ready shopping and you’re bound to find just what you need, whether it’s a last-minute gift or the perfect South African souvenir.
Situated inside Victoria Wharf, which is already chockfull of shopping and entertainment options, the Red Shed Craft Workshop has 22 small outlets, many of which have branches or head offices elsewhere in Cape Town and South Africa. The Red Shed Craft Workshop provides upmarket retail space for local craftsmen and artists. You can often view the tenants in action as they produce their handmade goods.
Wire art is an iconic part of South African craft. You can take home your own wire lampshades, lights and bowls to belts, bags and trendy fashion accessories from Get Wired.
If you’re looking for jewellery that says ‘Africa’, you’ll find it at the Red Shed Craft Workshop. You can get rock-art inspired silver pieces from Juliana Jewellers or big, bold designs in amber and silver from Antique Ethiopian Jewellery.
Your home will enjoy a chic upgrade with the many décor items on offer. Afritrends uses ostrich feathers, kudu horn and African textile designs in its contemporary products. These include throws, lamps, cushion covers and picture frames. Spin Knits’ blankets and throws are handmade by rural South Africans.
Kit out your brood with items from Baboon Kids, a fun children’s clothing brand that’s 100% locally produced. Or decorate the nursery with playful wooden spirals, clocks and mirrors from Atmosphere.
You’ll discover many more authentically South African surprises at the Red Shed Craft Workshop.
