Enjoy South Africa on a quality train journey

The Premier Classe Train

The Premier Classe Train traverses the Klein Karoo. The Premier Classe Train traverses the Klein Karoo.

Enjoy a leisurely but efficient luxury train ride from Johannesburg to Durban return, or Johannesburg to Cape Town return. Forget airport delays, rush hour traffic and cramped airline seats and cushion yourself in elegant comfort as you soak up the stunning views of sea, mountains, deserts and plains.

Did you know?

The Premier Classe train traverses the Karoo, among the world's most bio-diverse deserts.

Transnet's Premier Classe train allows you all kinds of freedoms, one of the most notable being able to take your car on board with you - if you book early enough to get one of the 8 available vehicle berths.

The Premier Classe train accommodates 126 guests, but the service accent on board is on the personal touch. The various sleeping coaches are well appointed with quality bedding, gowns and toiletries, and there's always a telephone handy to order room service.

The routes available through Premier Classe rail tours are Johannesburg to Cape Town and Johannesburg to Durban - both return. The Johannesburg - Cape Town run takes approximately 25 hours and departs from Johannesburg Station every Thursday and Sunday, and the return runs from Cape Town are on every Tuesday and Saturday.

The 14-hour overnight trip between Johannesburg and Durban is a great convenience for both business types and holidaymakers - go to sleep, wake up and you're there. There’s no rushing, no traffic jams, no airport delays, no miserable cramped airline seats.

After leaving Cape Town, the Premier Classe chugs along some of the finest coastline in the world, before cutting inland to the imposing Swartberg Mountains. There's a smoking lounge on board, a plasma screen television hook-up and DVD player.

If you can tear yourself away from the stunning scenery outside the windows, there's also an on-board spa where you can enjoy a full body massage, a foot massage, or a shoulders, neck and back massage.

There's even a fully equipped conference facility for up to 20 delegates, and after the day's work is done, the coach transforms into a funky dance venue for some serious relaxation.

But it's guaranteed that the natural sights outside this grand train will keep you riveted.
