The Gerotek Trail
Did you know?
The first mass-produced product range carrying the Isuzu name was launched in Japan in 1934.
You’ll find the Gerotek Trail – one of many exciting 4x4 trails run by the Isuzu Off-Road Academy – near Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West province, just 30 minutes from Pretoria and an hour from Johannesburg.
The Gerotek Trail provides a permanent venue for off-road activities where you can test your skills to the limit and learn more about yourself and your 4x4 than you could possibly have imagined.
Bring your own vehicle, or hire one on site, and prepare to hit the trail.
Your day starts early: after tea, coffee and muffins, it’s into the classroom for the theoretical presentation. Learn the importance of driver awareness and attitude, discover the basics mechanics of a 4x4, and get tips on off-road driving techniques.
Now it’s time to put the theory into action and go off the beaten track. You’ll face inclines and declines, practice the correct use of the rear diff-lock, and find out about tyre pressures, vehicle recovery and sand driving techniques.
After lunch, it’s back on the road as you navigate mud and sand, rocky terrain and side slopes. Be prepared for the unexpected and understand how important it is to have the right equipment and tools with you when you venture off-road.
Your exhausting yet exciting and informative day ends with a debrief session and a certificate presentation.
The Isuzu Off-Road Academy boasts 4x4 trails all over the country, from private game reserves in KwaZulu-Natal to a wine estate in the Western Cape. Their user-friendly website will literally point you in the right direction.
Satisfied participants rave about how exciting and informative the Gerotek Trail is, and how one learns a lot about both the 4x4 and oneself.
