Did you know?
The Summerfields Estate produces various rose varieties that are sold from the farm and at Summerfields outlets in White River. Rose Tours around the estate are conducted from Monday to Saturday.
You'll find Summerfield's Rose Retreat & Spa in a valley between Hazyview and Sabie in Mpumalanga, situated among plantations of mangoes, litchis, macadamia nut trees and roses.
The 100-hectare property is a wellness haven, known for its excellent service, unpretentious attitudes, and top-class therapies.
At this country spa, the tented suites and spa area are all spread out along the banks of the Sabie River.
The suites may have a rustic appeal, but they are certainly not lacking in luxury. Bed sheets are high thread-count percale cotton, and a bedside iPod provides a modern touch.
But the real highlight is the outdoor bathroom with a plush bath overlooking the river and the shower-head extending from a tree branch. Even during winter, a steamy bath while star-gazing is an experience not to be missed.
During the day, a visit to the Afro-Asian inspired spa is a must. Treatments take place in pavilions of wood and glass that merge beautifully with the landscape. Although they open up on to the river, the design ensures both a sense of privacy and freedom.
Signature treatments are inspired by the local produce, using rose oil and macadamia nut shells and oil, in one of the most tranquil and natural spa surroundings this country has to offer. If you're lucky, you could catch a glimpse of the resident crocodile as well.
In between spa treatments, you can wander through the rose farm, where plenty of different varieties and colours will keep your senses pleasantly occupied.
This Mpumalanga country spa is also known for its fantastic menu (all the herbs are picked fresh from the garden) and also has a varied wine list to choose from.
