South African food awards provide a good barometer of where and what you should be eating when you visit our country. Serious foodie adventurers don’t only seek out top-notch restaurants. They want to know where the locals go, where the best food shops and markets are, and where to try out regional delicacies.
Conducted annually, the Eat In Produce Awards celebrate produce that’s local, fresh, seasonal and sustainable. Products pour in from around the country and, after much nibbling, debating, sampling and scoring by a team of food experts and chefs, the winning products are announced. At the same time, the public is asked to nominate their favourite local product or food hero. The result, Eat In, is a countrywide food directory, of South Africa’s best and most innovative produce that’s as scrumptious as it is useful.
