Sandton City, Johannesburg

Sandton City by night. Sandton City by night.

Sandton City has it all, from the best-known international brand names to exciting local boutiques and speciality stores. As one of South Africa’s oldest and most exclusive shopping malls, it's a firm favorite with locals and visitors alike.

Did you know?

The Sandton Library at Sandton City houses over 92 000 volumes, as well as audio books, videos, CDs and language tapes.

Sandton City is one of the best known of Johannesburg’s shopping malls, home to hundreds of international and local fashion and lifestyle stores.

Situated in one of the most exclusive parts of the city, and dating from 1974, Sandton City really is the grande dame of malls, a retail pièce de résistance, known for constantly updating its style and facilities.

Its most recent redevelopment brings Sandton City's entire retail space to 143 690m2, taking the complex, which includes a hotel and offices, to 215 000m2 in total.

Visitors to the mall will find international brands like Jenni Button, Louis Vuitton and Apple alongside South African icons like Carrol Boyes. The mall is also home to the flagship stores of a number of large retailers, who identify with the exclusivity and sophistication of this prestigious shopping mall.

Given Sandton City’s profile and position in the central business district, it is also home to many restaurants and leisure facilities, including some of the top dining establishments in the city. They attract customers from the nearby hotels and vibrant business community around the mall, as well as further afield. There is also a large Ster Kinekor Classic Cinema.

Attached to the Sandton City via a pedestrian bridge, Nelson Mandela Square is a popular recreational space known for its trendy restaurants, bars and public events, along with a 6-metre bronze statue of Nelson Mandela.
