A South African term used to describe a zip line is “foefie slide”.
The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour, based on the Green Frog Farm, is situated near the towns of Tzaneen and Haenertsberg. This zip line adventure will provide surges of adrenalin, as adventurers fly over the beautiful, green gorge below.
The powerful sounds of the three waterfalls along the route, which are all around 20m tall, add to the authenticity of this jungle experience, while the still waters below provide serenity during breaks along the way.
On arrival, adventurers are given a thorough safety briefing, before being fitted with harnesses and safety helmets. Those taking part slide rapidly along various zip lines, stopping at wooden platforms to change to the next slide.
The tour lasts about three hours in total. Refreshments are served during the adventure, while a meal is offered afterward. Groups of up to 10 people can be accommodated per session.
The tour is suitable for anyone between the age of seven and 70. No previous experience is required, as instructors will provide advice along the way. For safety reasons, the Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour has a maximum weight limit of 120kg.
In addition to the waterfalls and the river, the natural scenery along the route includes various species of trees, as well as an assortment of wildflowers.
Some of the fauna to keep an eye out for when passing over the Letaba River gorge includes birds such as the Giant kingfisher, a big, bold, noisy fish hunter.
The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour has been operating since December 2008 and has provided fun and excitement for hundreds of adventurers. How to get here
Take the R71 towards Tzaneen and then the R528 towards Polokwane. After approximately 25km you will see signs to the Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour. The GPS co-ordinates are 23°58'33" S, 29°59'37" E
