Did you know?

Nicknames for Port Eizabeth include “The Friendly City” and “The Windy City”.

The Port Elizabeth beaches to have been awarded Blue Flag status at some stage in the past few years include Hobie Beach, Humewood Beach and King’s Beach.

Blue Flag beaches are those that have met high international standards of safety, cleanliness and facilities. According to the Blue Flag website, King’s Beach is popular because of it’s warm waters and it’s proximity to various amenities. There are also positive remarks about education programmes and interpretive signage at the beach during holiday season.

King’s Beach, a 1.6km stretch of golden sand between the harbour wall and the neighbouring Humewood Beach, is the perfect family beach, with plenty of space and well-maintained change rooms and ablution facilities.

The warm waters of the Indian Ocean that meet King’s Beach are ideal for swimming and bodysurfing. Professional lifesavers patrol the beach during the week, while qualified volunteers fill on weekends and holidays.

There is a large parking area next to King’s Beach, which is convenient for adventurers bringing picnic baskets and watersport equipment to the beach.

Along the King’s Beach promenade you will find MacArthur’s Baths Pool Complex, which features 2 open-air pools, both filled with fresh water, as well as a larger pool for those wishing to exercise. There is a ‘supertube’ waterslide to amuse people of all ages.

Other activities within easy walking distance of King’s Beach include mini golf and go-karting.

An assortment of restaurants along the beach promenade ensures that there are plenty of options when it comes to mealtime.

Port Elizabeth is very much a beach city, laid-back, casual and fun-loving. King’s Beach embodies all of these aspects and has much to offer those who visit.
