Kim Sacks has been involved in South African arts and crafts for over 40 years.
A vast diversity of African artists and craftspeople are represented at the Kim Sacks Gallery. Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, fabrics, beadwork and carvings by established and emerging artists from all over the continent are on display at this Johannesburg art gallery, ready to be sold to customers from across the globe.
At the Kim Sacks Gallery, you will find the finest hand-printed cloth from as far away as Mali on sale alongside telephone-wire baskets from KwaZulu-Natal. You’ll discover historical masks from Nigeria alongside contemporary beadwork from the Eastern Cape. Traditionally functional objects like milk gourds, head rests and stools are exhibited alongside modern ceramics and paintings. Exquisite African jewellery is sold alongside antique African furniture.
Some of the South African artists whose work is on sale at the gallery include Samuel Musharu, Lindelani Ngwenya, Richard Sithole, Carolyn Heydenrych, Clementina Van Der Walt and Christina Bryer.
The gallery’s stringent standards make it an important outlet for contemporary African art in South Africa and Kim Sacks, the gallery's founder, is also a ceramic artist and art teacher.
Sacks' knowledge of art from the African continent, along with her many years of experience, informs every aspect of the running of the gallery, from exhibitions promoting well-known artists to shows that promote art sourced from remote rural areas in South Africa and further afield.
The adjoining Kim Sacks School of Ceramics helps develop new talent by holding regular classes for beginners and advanced students, as well as specialist courses in various fields of ceramic art.
In winter, the gallery, which is housed in a beautifully restored historic building, is warmed by a crackling fire, while in summer the back veranda is a cool spot from which to contemplate your next purchase.
