Meditation in the Magaliesberg

Emoyeni Retreat Centre

Emoyeni is a Buddhist-based retreat centre. Emoyeni is a Buddhist-based retreat centre.

The Emoyeni Retreat Centre sits neatly on the northern slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain range, and is a place open to anyone who has a real interest in following a path of wisdom and compassion through using the practices of contemplation and meditation.

Did you know?

Emoyeni is a Zulu word meaning 'Place of the Spirit'.

The Emoyeni Retreat Centre is a humble space that offers individual retreats for those in search of quiet contemplation in beautiful surroundings far from the distractions of regular modern life.

Although the centre is based on Buddhist principles, you do not have to be a Buddhist or have any kind of religious leaning at all to book your space here – Emoyeni is open to anyone who honestly wants to explore a spiritual path.

At this Magaliesberg retreat various 'conducted retreats' are offered throughout the year and cover a wide range of topics, including an introduction to Buddhism; an insight into meditation; art workshops; writer's retreats; landscaping workshops; yoga weekend getaways; and psychology-based workshops. One can also do a self-retreat, where you decide on your needs for your time at Emoyeni.

At this retreat in the Magaliesberg there are a few hard and fast rules: all meals are vegetarian; there is no alcohol allowed on the premises; and noble silence is observed every day, stretching from the evening meditation to after breakfast the following day.

There are no televisions, radios, magazines or swimming pools, and cell-phones are frowned upon – which means outside distractions are limited, allowing you the space to enjoy the exquisite surroundings.

The accommodation is simple, yet comfortable and there is only space for 12 guests at any one time, making Emoyeni the ideal place to seek your inner voice in the shadow of the earthy Magaliesberg mountain range. Day visitors are welcome at this retreat, but you do need to book in advance.
