In the world of tourism industry awards, the polls produced for the top-end Condé Nast Traveller Awards are avidly followed, as they set benchmarks in luxury and trend. The release of the winners and finalists of the recent Reader's Travel Awards for 2010 had the industry all eyes and ears as to which properties, cities and countries got the thumbs up.
When Condé Nast Traveller awards recognition in the field of tourism, travellers from all around the globe sit up and iisten, which is good news for South Africa. In the recent polls South Africa came in 9th on the list in-between the USA and France (with a super-high score of 88.58). Our Cape Town restos did us proud and we came third on the list behind Italy and Spain in the food and restaurants category. We were also singled out for excellence in business tourism with The Grace in Rosebank, Johannesburg taking 13th place - surprisingly enough we beat the famous Hotel Arts in Barcelona is this category.
Cape Town always does well in terms of 'best cities in the world', and the Condé Nast readers voted Cape Town as the world's 13th greatest city, just before Marrakech and Shanghai. We also have our ducks in a row when it comes to spas and Pezula Resort Hotel and Spa was voted as one of the top three best spas in the world, and was the only spa in Africa to make it onto the list.
Condé Nast Traveller (UK) and Condé Nast Traveler (US) regularly showcase the best hotels in the world on their Hot List, and we look forward to seeing South Africa's hotels up in the lights once more.
