Did you know?
Addo Elephant National Park is the third-largest national park in South Africa and also incorporates St Croix and Bird islands.
Under the shade of citrus trees on the banks of the Sundays River in Addo nestles the Casa Mia Health Spa, 15km from the Addo Elephant National Park and 50km from Port Elizabeth.
As its name suggests, it brings a touch of Mexico to South Africa, along with a long list of treatments and spa packages.
This Eastern Cape spa has extensive facilities – six treatment rooms and a double room for couples, a pool, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy bath, indoor and outdoor showers, and a spa bath.
Signature therapies at this Addo health spa include a Vichy shower, a Dead Sea mineral mud body wrap and a Scotch hose for attacking cellulite (and other wobbly bits). Massages range from Swedish to aromatherapy, Indian head and hot stone. Thalassotherapy (which uses sea products), hair and scalp treatments and airbrush tanning are also offered. Exercise-wise, Casa Mia has a well-equipped gym and offers Pilates classes.
Day visitors can partake in a healthy lunch in a tranquil garden or indoor dining room, selecting dishes from a menu that makes use of locally grown fruit and vegetables. There is an option to stay longer and take advantage of a five-day detox or a 10-day slimming programme, or a shorter two-day spa safari.
Accommodation is in four-star, air-conditioned, en-suite rooms with satellite TV, and is offered on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
The spa safari package takes visitors on a therapeutic journey of hydrotherapy, steaming, scrubbing and wrapping. It includes showers, massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. And, to top it all, there’s a game drive in the Addo Elephant National Park.
The health spa, a certified BEE company, uses products of top-of-the-range cosmetics houses. The spectacular surrounds of Casa Mia are conducive to full relaxation – visitors can walk in the orchard or meditate on a deck over a dam visited by wild birds.
