Brookdale Health Hydro is based in the picturesque village of Nottingham Road in the scenic KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, just 4,5 hours from Johannesburg and a short 1,5 hour drive from Durban. Here you can focus on a true escape, in a country haven bordered by forest and farmland with a meandering stream.
This KwaZulu Natal health hydro offers an extremely high ratio of staff to guests - a Brookdale consultant meets with each guest on arrival to ascertain their health, level of fitness, personal preferences and to advise on the most suitable treatments, exercise and diet. The guest is able to choose a routine that best suits them, incorporating as many of Brookdale's treatments and facilities that they can manage in the time available.
Brookdale employs the Nutri-fit programme, which was devised by exercise physiologist, Rob Cowling. Nutri-fit aims for a composite, manageable lifestyle approach based on healthy eating, moderate exercise and stress management in order to provide a realistic outcome-based method of embracing a balanced lifestyle.
You needn't go hungry and fasting is definitely not encouraged. Although red meat is not served, low fat dishes including chicken and fish are included on the menu, with plenty of fresh vegetables, crisp salads and a variety of fruit.
To accommodate guests and their individual schedules, Brookdale's activities include the use of a fully equipped gym (and fitness trainer), walks around the estate and neighbouring farms, swimming (in the outdoor or indoor pool), aqua aerobics, Pilates, stretch & toning, yoga, and guided relaxation.
Brookdale's approach is a personal one and visitors are limited to just 34 guests at any one time. When it comes to treatments, therapists only use reputable products from established brands, such as Guinot, Babor, Ahava, Clarins, OPI, Paul Mitchell and South Africa's own award-winning brand, Environ.
