Zululand rejuvenation

African Essence Spa

The African Essence Spa - essence of the Elephant Coast

African Essence Spas in Zululand have packaged the spirit of Africa on an extensive spa treatment menu which includes traditional African practises that have been modernised and transformed to meet the needs of the discerning spa-goer. So allow Africa’s magic to restore your mojo.

Did you know?

Richard's Bay is the industrial hub of the Elephant Coast

The African Essence Spa concept is a simple one: take inspiration from African traditions and introduce these into a modern spa setting. There are two spas that operate in Zululand in the far north of the province of KwaZulu Natal, namely The African Essence Spa Richard's Bay and the African Essence Spa Nkwalini Valley (27 kilometres from Empangeni).

These Zululand Spas offer both day and overnight packages. When it comes to day packages there are some wonderful options available: There's the Inkomfi Sloughing Process - which is an African tradition aimed at renewing the body ahead of any important ceremony (or event). An exfoliating treatment that uses Geranium, Neroli, Lemon and Sweet Orange to nourish and revitalise the skin. Then there's the Soul of Africa Conditioning Body Massage - using oil from the Marula tree (said to have incredible healing properties and is used in anointment ceremonies to attract abundance); The Ingubo Body Wrap is a herbal body wrap taken from the Zulu word - Ingubo meaning ‘blanket or cocoon', this treatment uses African Potato, Marula oil and Rooibos to soothe and hydrate the skin. There are half-day and full day packages on offer that combine these different rituals.

The Nkwaleni African Essence Spa has a few exotic overnight packages including the African Adventure (2 night package) that incorporates a number of treatments over two glorious days, then there's the African Sunset offering (1 night) and the Bridal Retreat (also 1 night) - of course it does help if you are doing your nuptials in the next day or two! The African Royal Ritual combines a special ritual (using hot stones) along with a body scrub, aromatherapy massage and reflexology. The African Indona Ritual for men includes a full body sports massage using hot stones, reflexology, an Indian head massage and full body scrub.

These two Spas in Zululand are a treat for the wellness seeker in search of something a little different.
