The Sandton Sun Spa is located in the Sandton Sun hotel, a landmark in the business and shopping district of Sandton, about 20km north of Johannesburg's city centre. It’s a serene pamper zone in this ever-growing district of commerce, one that eschews machine treatments for the healing power of hands and the comfort of touch.
The spa is clearly influenced by Eastern traditions and concepts in its design, but at the same time recognises its African heritage in its treatments and therapies.
With eight treatment rooms, it’s a sizeable spa that can handle corporate groups or pamper parties. Each treatment room has its own shower, toilet, closet and jewellery box for valuables. The suites bear evocative and spa-appropriate names like Revive, Reflect, Replenish and Restore. For the duration of their treatments, clients can make these rooms their own by selecting the background music, the fragrance and the lighting.
Treatments at this sophisticated spa span the full gamut – massages, facials, body polishes and scrubs, exfoliations, manicures and pedicures, waxes and tints. With massages particularly in demand, the Sandton Spa has elected to import therapies, mainly from Indonesia, and staff have been personally coached by Indonesian trainers. A top-selling treatment is the Sea Whisperer, a fusion of massage styles from around the world.
Delving into the spa menu, there’s much to entice. The Dancing Fingers massage has the hands of two therapists working on your body in tandem. A number of seawater-based treatments using the products of the Phytomer range promise a hydrated and supple skin. African tones are present with the Africology product range, which makes use of indigenous plants such as the African potato, the marula tree and local herbs.
Bearing in mind the ever-present time limits of its clientele, the spa offers a choice of 30-minute express treatments.

The Sandton Sun Spa is located on the mezzanine level of the Sandton Sun Hotel, on the corner of 5th Street and Alice Lane in Sandton. Alice Lane can be accessed from Sandton Drive.
Around the area
Adjoining the Sandton Sun hotel is Sandton City, a vast shopping mall that in turn is connected to another shopping centre, Nelson Mandela Square. In this combined space are designer label boutiques, cinemas, restaurants, a theatre, electronic shops, jewellery stores, art shops and hairdressing salons – tons of pursuits to keep the urbanite busy for hours. The Sandton Sun Convention Centre is also in the neighbourhood.
Get around
If you're coming from out of town, catch the Gautrain from OR Tambo International. The Sandton Sun is a 15-minute walk or short taxi ride away from the Gautrain station.
