Cape Town’s most famous natural landmarks are Table Mountain and Cape Point. These attractions are on every nature lover’s itinerary when they visit and adventurous explorers can go a step further by taking the Hoerikwaggo Trail and hiking between these two world-famous sites.

Did you know?

Hoerikwaggo is a San word meaning mountain.

Hiking the Hoerikwaggo Trail is one of the best ways to explore the natural side of Cape Town and its surrounds. This 88km route between Table Mountain and Cape Point is evenly spread out over five days, giving those who walk it enough time to take in the vast array of scenery on offer.

Up to 12 hikers can be accommodated per tour, with a minimum of four required in order for a tour to proceed. Depending on the fitness of group members, hiking time will range from seven to 10 hours a day.

Accommodation for the four nights of the Hoerikwaggo Trail is included in the package. The tented camps along the route are very cosy, offering excellent scenery. During the evenings hikers can enjoy an open fire and relive the day’s adventures.

The trail starts with a walk up Table Mountain, via Platteklip Gorge. After taking in the spectacular views from the top of this New7Wonder of Nature, adventurers then proceed in the direction of Hout Bay, arriving at the restricted Orange Kloof Forest, where the first night is spent.

Day two is a 17.5km walk to Silvermine, which includes fantastic views of the Cape peninsula and False Bay.

The third day is a favourite of many, as hikers pass along Chapman’s Peak before spending the rest of the day walking along the beach to Kommetjie.

The last night of the hike is spent in Simon’s Town, after a 17km hike from Kommetjie. On day five, hikers complete the journey to Cape Point before being transported back to Cape Town.

The Hoerikwaggo Trail is a hiking adventure you will never forget.
