A-mazing horse therapy

Celtis Horse Labyrinth

Celtis Lodge Country Retreat The labyrinth at Celtis Lodge

This Magaliesberg horse labyrinth gives one the opportunity to experience a bit of horsey healing in the great outdoors. It’s a combination of equine-therapy and being out in nature that does the trick, combine this experience with angel card readings and massage therapy and you’ll be good as new.

Did you know?

The Magaliesberg mountains are said to be amongst the oldest mountains in the world (over 100 times older than Everest).

This Magaliesberg horse labyrinth, is the first of its kind in the North West province,  and it's certainly creating waves amongst the new-age community.

There are many schools of thought that say the equine-therapy (healing with horses) does wonders for body, mind and spirit. Certainly, ex-nurse Margot Burnett would agree. She runs the Celtis Lodge Country Retreat in the Magaliesberg, with her son Mike - and says that marrying good old horsy energy with spending time outdoors - and allowing the mind to go on a journey, is a formidable combination when sorting out one's problems.

Burnett says, ‘The labyrinth is a spiritual tool where you can come to terms with problems and their solutions. When one is sitting on the back of a horse a tremendous amount of healing is transferred.'  It takes about an hour to get around the labyrinth, and Margot says that guests can also enjoy long outback rides in the scenic Magaliesberg area, through the mielie fields and rural farmlands. The area is also renowned for exquisite birdlife.

This Magaliesberg attraction also houses a medieval (walking) labyrinth, and there are a number of therapies on offer such as holistic massages and angel card readings.  Burnett says that city folk arrive with their laptops, their iPods and their stressed out brows, and after a few days of horsy healing - they are ready to take on the world once more.

Why not make a weekend of it. There are also a number of attractions in the area - head off along the Magalies Meander arts & crafts route (great restaurants too), or simply spend time in the gorgeous gardens of Celtis Lodge Country Retreat in-between your labyrinth walks or therapy sessions.

Certainly a Magaliesberg horse labyrinth is something a little different, but if you're open to new experiences - it's definitely worth a try.
