And hot on the heels of that award, Hanneli Slabber, the South African Tourism country manager for India, was honoured by Safari India with its 'Best Professional in Marketing' award at the Safari India National Tourism Awards, for her outstanding work and noteworthy contribution as South African Tourism country manager.
The award was presented to Slabber at the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association International Seminar in New Delhi on 2 August 2014.
Commenting on South Africa being named 'Best Foreign Destination in the Rest of the World' at the India Travel Awards (West), Slabber said the award is especially notable as it represents the voice of Indian travellers.
'We would like to thank the distinguished jury and every travel enthusiast who voted for South Africa in this category. South Africa is continually being appreciated for its diverse attractions and impeccable hospitality. This award is testimony to the relationship Indian travellers have with South Africa,' she said.
Slabber invited Indian travellers who have not yet experienced the wonders of South Africa to come 'Meet South Africa' on their next holiday.
Of her 'Best Professional in Marketing' award, Slabber said she is extremely proud and humbled to receive the award.
'Having received this honour in the presence of eminent industry professionals has further increased my enthusiasm and commitment towards the Indian market.
'However, this would have been an impossible feat for me to achieve without the dedication and continued support of my team and all our valued trade partners. Together, we have built Brand South Africa in the Indian market and we are completely overwhelmed to see the tremendous growth trajectory in Indian tourist arrival figures to the Rainbow Nation,' she said
Since Slabber’s appointment as South African Tourism country manager for India, South Africa has witnessed an exponential growth in Indian tourist arrivals, and the country is now one of the preferred holiday destinations among Indian travellers.
According to the latest statistics, 112 672 Indian tourists visited South Africa between January and December 2013, a 5.5% increase on 2012 figures.
