National Geographic on assignment in South Africa

National Geographic and South African Tourism have announced the launch of their latest ‘Through the Lens’ campaign.

I’m beyond stoked, grateful, and honoured to share with you all that I’m heading to South Africa with National Geographic Channel to shoot “Through the Lens”, a one-minute vignette that takes you through the lens of a National Geographic photographer as he/she explores the beauty, culture and history of various regions in South Africa - Lola Akerstrom, National Geographic photographer

South African Tourism and National Geographic’s latest ‘Through the Lens’ campaign follows the journey of 3 award-winning National Geographic photographers to 3 iconic South African destinations: Cape Town, Durban and the Drakensberg.

The photographers - Lola Akerstrom, Stephen Alvarez and Heather Perry - will portray the beauty of the destination and its people through their personal journeys and images. The National Geographic channel will create 3 short films of the photographers on location to be aired in January 2013.

Lola Akerstrom will visit the port city of Durban, Heather Perry will visit Cape Town and Stephen Alvarez will experience the mighty Drakensberg. Each of these highly talented photographers has a unique style and will interpret South Africa in enlightening ways for National Geographic Channel viewers.

Akerstrom could barely contain her excitement in a blog entry a few days ago. She wrote, 'I’m beyond stoked, grateful, and honoured to share with you all that I’m heading to South Africa with National Geographic Channel to shoot “Through the Lens”, a one-minute vignette that takes you through the lens of a National Geographic photographer as he/she explores the beauty, culture and history of various regions in South Africa'.
