There is an average permit tariff increase of 10% across the board for all professional photography and filming in our national parks – Reynold Thakhuli, SANParks Media, Events & Stakeholder Relations General Manager.
This is the first review of SANParks’ filming and photographic permit tariffs in
10 years, according to Reynold Thakhuli, Media, Events & Stakeholder Relations General Manager at SANParks.
Thakhuli said SANParks kept the film and photographic industries in mind when revising the tariffs, so as not to put them under financial strain in the current global economic environment.
He added that while SANParks recognised the role of the film and photographic industries in the promotion of South Africa’s natural
resources and heritage, it was important the integrity of the country’s
national parks be maintained. This, he said, could only be achieved through maintenance, which required financial input as profit was not a primary motive.
The increases affect all categories of filming and photography in the parks,
including commercials, feature films, tourism documentaries and stills photography. Tariffs are dependent on the type of production and the number of
people and vehicles involved.
