Knorr Flavour Tour meets South Africa

South Africa’s rich and colourful culinary heritage is being brought to the fore with the Knorr Flavour Tour, an SMS competition that sees winners travel the country in search of great tastes.

The Knorr Flavour Tour, in partnership with South African Tourism, will see five lucky South African couples hit the road in search of unique South African flavours.

On their travels, the winners will experience a host of uniquely South African flavours and aromas, from the best oxtails, bunny chows and curries to fresh produce. They will be treated to hot-air balloon rides, cooking safaris and delectable dishes prepared with Knorr salad dressings.

To enter is simple: buy a Knorr salad dressing and SMS the bar code to 45796.

The competition runs until 31 August, and the winners will be announced soon thereafter. The winners' four-day road trip commences in early October.

Says Knorr brand manager Jabulile Mthethwa: 'The road trip starts in Johannesburg, where the winners will be taken on a beautiful journey to celebrate South African flavours. We will begin with a six-course wine tasting in Johannesburg, and then it’s off to Soweto for some bungee jumping and more food tasting.

'After Gauteng, we will be driving to Harrismith, the Drakensberg and Durban, and then flying back home.'

South African Tourism's country manager for southern Africa, Debbie Damant, is pleased to be showcasing her city, Durban, where she was born and bred, as well as other South African cities and towns.

'Durban has a fusion of different flavours. There are lots of other special places and towns besides the city of Durban. Food and road-tripping is the ultimate experience. When someone says, "Let’s go for a road trip," your reply or thought is, "Where’s the padkos?"

'We need to remind ourselves we have the most awesome food,' Damant says.

This trip is the first of many Knorr Flavour Tours – the next one takes place in Western Cape early next year, where the winning road-trippers will travel the scenic Garden Route.

Knorr chef Wendy Croeser hopes that, through the competition, people will discover the versatility of Knorr products, and 'make the kitchen your playground'.

'Knorr salad dressings can also be used for savoury meals. For example, you can pour the Knorr Creamy Blue Cheese Salad Dressing over your chicken fillet and stick it in the oven,' she says.
