There are more than 100 international embassies and high commissions in Pretoria.
Namaskar Restaurant in Pretoria delights diners with its inviting ambience and tasty North Indian cuisine.
Replicating the heady smells, sites and flavours of colourful India, the dishes on Namaskar’s vegetarian menu are prepared by Indian chefs inspired by the culture and heritage of the country. Owner Prakash Nagar says that while meat features on the menu, many guests venture to his restaurant for the vegetarian dishes alone.
Nagar caters for all dietary requirements – including vegans and Jain vegetarians – and is happy to alter or substitute ingredients wherever needed. He says vegetarian and vegan diners particularly love his paneer and lentil curries, mopped up with delicious egg-free and dairy-free rotis.
His breads are also highly sought after, with 18 options available, and are served piping hot from the tandoor.
Those looking to sample South Africa’s renowned wines can venture into the restaurant’s huge wine cellar: the menu offers more than 50 white and 50 red wines, as well as a vintage collection.
Namaskar Restaurant also makes dinner a fun night out with regular Bollywood dance-themed evenings.
While the spacious restaurant boasts generous views over Pretoria’s bustling Church Street, those preferring a more intimate setting, such as for corporate gatherings or special occasions, can make use of the 2 private dining rooms that seat 8 and 10 people each.
Swathed in exotic colours that mimic the warming hues of turmeric, cardamom and saffron, the restaurant’s décor is as striking as the purple flush of the city’s blossoming jacaranda trees in October.
The capital may be well known for its quality steakhouses, but there are an increasing number of vegetarian restaurants in Pretoria that, like Namaskar, prove that vegetarian dining today is anything but dull.
