The Port Elizabeth beaches to have been awarded Blue Flag status at some stage in the past few years include Hobie Beach, Humewood Beach and King’s Beach.
Blue Flag beaches are those that have met high international standards of safety, cleanliness and facilities. King’s Beach is popular because of its warm waters and its proximity to various amenities.
King’s Beach, a 1.6km stretch of golden sand between the harbour wall and the neighbouring Humewood Beach, is the perfect family beach, with plenty of space and well-maintained change rooms and ablution facilities.
The warm waters of the Indian Ocean that meet King’s Beach are ideal for swimming and bodysurfing. Professional lifesavers patrol the beach during the week, while qualified volunteers fill on weekends and holidays.
There is a large, conveniently situated parking area next to King’s Beach.
Along the King’s Beach promenade you will find MacArthur’s Baths Pool Complex, which features two open-air pools, both filled with fresh water, as well as a larger pool for those wishing to exercise.
Other activities within easy walking distance of King’s Beach include mini-golf and go-karting.
An assortment of restaurants along the beach promenade ensures that there are plenty of options when it comes to wanting something to eat.
Port Elizabeth is a laid-back, casual and fun-loving beach city. King’s Beach embodies all of these aspects and has much to offer those who visit. Be sure to get there early in busy seasons like the December and April holidays though, as it can get very crowded.

How to get here
King’s Beach is less than 10 minutes' drive from Port Elizabeth Airport. You can hire a car from the airport, or take a taxi.
Best time to visit
Although summer months are between October and April, the warm waters of the Indian Ocean ensure that there is never a bad time of year to visit King’s Beach.
