Bayworld Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
Did you know?
Port Elizabeth's weather is rated as the fourth best in the world for a coastal city.
Along the East Coast in the heart of South Africa's friendliest and windiest city, you'll find an aquarium that is a treasure for young and old. Bayworld Port Elizabeth delights visitors daily with a dolphin show featuring the duo Domino and Dumisa, two Bottlenose dolphins. This Port Elizabeth aquarium is divided into three parts: an Oceanarium, museum and snake park.
The main attraction of the Oceanarium is the Dolphin Lake. Known as one of the world's biggest dolphin lakes, it is no surprise that it contains 4, 75 million liters of filtered seawater, is 60m long, 45m at its widest point and up to 4,5m deep.
In the main fish tank at Bayworld Port Elizabeth you'll be wowed with a colourful display of large fish, turtles and sharks. Visitors love to see if they can find Nemo in the smaller tropical tank, where tropical fish and sea turtles swim alongside each other.
Children are thrilled to observe the seals splash around in the large seal pool. The aquarium has the Cape Fur seal and the Sub Antarctic seal. If you want to see if penguins can really march then visit their area where they have a blast in the swimming hole and waterfall that they share with other sea birds.
Another great attraction at Bayworld Port Elizabeth is the Snake Park where you can study in great detail snakes, juvenile crocodiles, lizards, tortoises, terrapins and geckos behind the safety of a glass cage. You can also learn more about our natural history at the museum that exhibits marine, bird and other displays.
