Did you know?
The suburb of Parkview is home to a number of well-regarded restaurants.
Vegetarian dining at Gingko restaurant in Parkview, Johannesburg, offers guilt-free indulgence with a satisfying array of choices, whether you’re looking for breakfast, brunch, lunch or a tea with something on the side. Its food is kept ‘clean’ (eco-friendly and preservative free) and organic produce is sourced wherever possible.
The star attraction is the daily lunchtime buffet, which allows you to put together a plate consisting of nothing but your personal favourites. Only interested in some quiche, a curry or a quick soup? Well, then settle for that. If, however, you’re big on greens, salads, cheese and specialty breads, load your plate with those! Remember, the lighter your choices, the smaller the bill, as each plate is weighed and you pay accordingly.
Traditionally there are a couple of hot mains (say, a pasta, or aubergine or butternut bake) complemented by platters of antipasti, savoury tarts, vegetable combos (both cooked and raw) and sweet treats. (Oh my, the sweet stuff! Nutty muffins, carrot cake, spice cake, chocolate – it’s all there, even glucose- and sucrose-free options.)
Gingko’s vegetarian menu – the à la carte menu that supplements the buffet – offers everything from a traditional breakfast fry-up (mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, toast) to wheat-free pancakes with bananas, berries and maple syrup; and from bulging wraps and burgers to designer salads.
The restaurant's setting complements the wholesome food choices – Parkview is a green, leafy suburb and Gingko’s deck is a peaceful getaway spot right around the corner from some of Jo'burg’s best greengrocers.
The attached shop gives you the opportunity to shop for all manner of healthy goods, from wheat-free biscuits to balsamic reductions, delicious nuts and dried fruit.
