Who we are

South African Tourism is the national tourism agency responsible for marketing South Africa as a destination internationally and domestically.

The Tourism Growth Strategy

• It aims to make tourism the leading economic sector in South Africa, and so promote sustainable economic and social empowerment of all South Africans. At the same time South Africa is marketed as an integral part of Africa and particularly the subcontinent of southern Africa.

• To accomplish these goals, South African Tourism commits to meaningfully contribute to the government's objectives of increased GDP growth, sustainable job creation and redistribution and transformation through:

- Increasing tourist volume;

- Increasing the geographic spread, length of stay and tourist spend of all visitors;

- Improving seasonality arrivals patterns; and

- Working to transform the industry so that historically disadvantaged South Africans may benefit from the sector.

 Leadership

• South African Tourism is governed by a Board of 13 members appointed by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Marthinus van Schalkwyk, Mr Jabu Mabuza heads the Board at South African Tourism

• The organisation is lead up by Chief Executive Officer, Mr Thulani Nzima and Chief Operating Officer, Mr Timothy Scholtz.

• Ms Roshene Singh is Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Johan van der Walt is Chief Financial Officer and Ms Thembi Kunene is the Chief Quality Assurance Officer.

Logo and corporate identity

• South African Tourism's logo and corporate identity were redeveloped in 2009 in collaboration with the International Marketing Council (IMC)

• The logo uses the colours of the internationally recognised South African flag to leverage awareness of South African Tourism as the marketer of Tourism to South Africa

• The logo is an icon of the pride in South Africa that South African Tourism strives to nurture among all South Africans

Towns of South Africa

1. Stellenbosch
   

   The second oldest town in South Africa, Stellenbosch is renowned for having the longest wine route in the world. Cheers!

   
2. Pilgrim's Rest
   

   Something of a living museum, the entire town has been declared a national monument and was once one of South Africa’s most populated gold rush towns.

   
3. Franschhoek
   

   Once home to the French Huguenots, now Franschhoek is known as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa – with its superb array of restaurants and wine estates.

   
4. Knysna
   

   This pretty town along the Garden Route is very popular with local artist’s and therefore has a laid-back and decidedly creative feel. It’s also the gateway to excellent adventure activities.

   
5. Oudtshoorn
   

   Known as the ‘ostrich capital’ of South Africa, Oudtshoorn is the commercial centre of the greater Klein Karoo and is also home to the well-known KKNK arts festival.

   
6. Dullstroom - Emnotweni
   

   Known as a major fly-fishing destination, Dullstroom is surrounded by magnificent scenery and there are lots of fun pubs and eateries in the main drag.

   
7. Clarens
   

   Known as ‘the Jewel of the Free State’ Clarens is a picturesque town located close to Golden Gate National Park and the Maluti Mountains - a creative haven for artistic souls.

   
8. Cullinan
   

   Found along the well-known Dinokeng Tourism Route, it was in Cullinan that the world’s largest diamond was found in 1902.

   
9. Groot Marico
   

   This typical North West Town was the regular haunt of one of South Africa’s most revered literary souls – Herman Charles Bosman and his main character – Oom Schalk Lourens.
