A Limpopo wedding offers the bride and groom so many options when it comes to destinations: the spectacular Waterberg; the lush valleys of Tzaneen; the family haunts of Bela Bela; and the magic and wonder of being deep in Venda territory.

Did you know?

In Venda culture, ‘tshikona’ is a dance performed by men at weddings or religious ceremonies.

Weddings in Limpopo offer many tempting opportunities: this is the province that is home to ancient kingdoms, rain queens and sacred forests, and there are numerous venues that will appeal to couples in search of an event that is truly magical.

There aren't many wedding venues that can beat family-friendly lodges like Mabula, a large private game reserve two-hour drive north of Jo'burg; Mopani Bush Lodge, which borders Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site; and Pafuri River Camp, at the northern-most tip of the Kruger National Park.

Weddings often take place in the scenic Waterberg region of Limpopo, and venues like Marataba Safari Lodge in the Marakele National Park cater for high-end wedding celebrations (an overnight stay in a gorgeous tented camp is part of the attraction). The Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is home to a number of lodge-type wedding venues, including Makweti Safari Lodge, and Shibula Lodge and Bush Spa.

Small towns offer a range of venues for weddings in Limpopo, from Bela Bela’s Chateau Larize to the green lawns of Ya Mati in Hoedspruit. The Tzaneen Country Lodge is also an option, and offers a private chapel on the grounds.

One of the most beautiful gardens in the country can be found at Kings Walden Garden Manor in Agatha – a superb venue for a small, romantic gathering. And close to the town of Elim, you will find Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge, a beautiful location between mountains and forests on the fringes of Venda country.

A golf and spa package deal is popular, and the Euphoria Golf Estate & Hydro offers an all-inclusive wedding package, with the option of a ceremony on one of the fairways. Legends Lodges in the Entabeni Safari Conservancy is another option that will keep guests happy, and apart from hosting beautiful weddings, offers perhaps the most unusual golf hole in the world (you need the assistance of a helicopter, and the green is hundreds of metres below the tee-off area).
