If you've had your fill of the beautiful beaches, great seafood and whale watching that Hermanus is famous for, and now feel the need for some adrenalin-fuelled activity, head off to SA Forest Adventures in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and get your adventure started.

Did you know?

The annual Hermanus Whale Festival in October is a major visitor attraction.

Tear yourself away from the sea, the whale-watching and the beautiful beaches and head off to SA Forest Adventures just a few minutes outside Hermanus.

Situated on a lovely farm in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (renowned for its fine wines), SA Forest Adventures is the place to get active.

Quad biking is everybody’s favourite and there are different bikes to choose from. You need no previous experience because trained guides will have you zooming along in no time. Take a trip through the vineyards and fynbos, up the mountain to a lookout point where you'll be treated to fantastic views of Hermanus and the sea. On a clear day you can even see Cape Town.

If you're short of time then combine your quad biking with some wine tasting at two different wine estates, where you’ll sample excellent wine and enjoy more splendid views before climbing back on your sturdy metal steed to enjoy the ride back to base. And if the weather is clear, a stargazing outing by quad bike is a must.

Fancy yourself as Tarzan? Then tackle the tree top slides. Even if you're a bit apprehensive, your guides will take you through the process, give you lots of confidence, then away you go on a 200m slide, 16m high, touching down at 12 different platforms before you come back to earth.

If you're in a big group and want a shared experience with an edge, then paintball fits the bill. Whether you’re an expert or a beginner, you can choose a full war experience (for those with high testosterone levels) or just some casual fun play for the novice.

Then there are the water adventures, like rafting and tubing on the Palmiet River near Kleinmond (about half an hour from Hermanus).
