Cape Town's Iziko Museums are a collection of African museums that aim to and inspire South Africa's people (and her visitors) to celebrate the diverse heritage, history and culture of this unique country.
Iziko Museums Cape Town was created as an umbrella body to better manage and promote urban museums in Cape Town. These include the Bo-Kaap Museum; Groot Constantia Manor House, Koopmans-De Wet House; Maritime Centre; Michaelis Collection at The Old Town House; the Planetarium; Rust en Vreugd; SAS Somerset; Slave Lodge; Social History Centre; South African Museum; South African National Gallery; Bertram House and The William Fehr Collection at The Castle of Good Hope.
Iziko Museums of South Africa also has education and public programmes, offering a learning experience for everyone no matter what their age or level of interest. There are fascinating school programmes that focus on art, social and natural history as well as the planetarium. Public programmes are well attended, and include workshops, lectures, and a winter school.
The Western Cape is steeped in history, and the Iziko Museums offer an accessible way to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the country.
