Visa and South African Tourism partner to promote SA

Global payments technology company Visa and South African Tourism (SAT) have teamed up to promote both South Africa as a tourist destination, and visitors’ use of the Visa card.
Titled ‘South Africa and Visa Welcome You’, the promotion will not only articulate South Africa’s tourist appeal, but also the country’s advanced electronic payment network, which supports payments by Visa cards.
According to Phumi Dhlomo, regional director for Africa and domestic at SAT, the alliance will see the 2 organisations pooling resources to promote South Africa as the destination of choice and to provide useful tips to tourists on how to manage their travel expenses safely and conveniently.

Over the coming months Visa and South African Tourism will embark on activities promoting tourism, as well as the convenience of card usage while in South Africa. These will support retailers’ end-of-year sales in January 2013 with POS visibility and card activation campaigns to drive visitors in-store. The Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament in January/February will provide an opportunity to highlight the South African retail sector.
Visa’s report, 'Tourism Outlook: South Africa', released in September, showed that tourist arrivals to South Africa rose 3% in 2011 despite tough global economic conditions. Increases from neighbouring countries Angola, Mozambique and Nigeria were particularly notable.
Visa and SAT hope to further strengthen inflows from emerging markets such as China and India, and traditional markets like the United Kingdom, United States and Germany.
