SAA scores a perfect 10 as Best Airline in Africa

The annual World Airline Awards were announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK on 12 July 2012. South African Airways (SAA) scored a double whammy: travellers voted it as the Best Airline in Africa for the 10th consecutive year, and it received the Best Airline Staff Service in Africa Award for the 3rd time.
The awards, hosted by SKYTRAX (a global aviation research organisation), are based on a customer response survey. Over 18 million businesses and air travellers from over 100 countries took part.
The survey covers over 200 domestic and international airlines across the world. It measures passenger satisfaction across a range of key performance areas including check-in to boarding, comfort, cabin cleanliness, food and beverage service, staff behaviour, and general consistency of service standards.
South African Airways CEO, Siza Mzimela, said of the awards: ‘SKYTRAX has again confirmed that SAA, with our excellent service and very convenient connections to 26 African destinations via our Johannesburg hub, ranks with the best in the world.’
The World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence. Mzimela attributed the accolades to the committed SAA staff contingent: ‘We are immensely proud of our staff members, because it is their consistent, professional and dedicated approach combined with our reliable fleet, our hospitable and advanced on-board product, and the convenient connectivity we offer through our global route network that led passengers to again rate SAA number one in Africa.’
Edward Plaisted, chairman of SKYTRAX, also commended the staff and the airline for consistency and commitment to excellence. ‘This represents another great success for SAA. To pick up these two major awards is a clear indication of the esteem that passengers have for the airline. With this being the 10th consecutive year that SAA has emerged winner of the Best Airline in Africa title, it underlines its dominance of this market. Also, being named winner of the Best Airline Staff Service in Africa award is recognition of the hard work across all front line staff at SAA,’ he said.
