It was announced last week that Cape Town International Airport has been named the best airport in Africa. The Award was made by the Airports Council International as part of their Airport Service Quality Awards. These awards have become a global benchmark in service excellence at airports around the world.

Skye Grove, Communications Manager, Cape Town Tourism says the acknowledgement is a great honour in light of the fact that passengers cast the deciding vote. ‘Cape Town International Airport has been named the Best Airport in Africa by the Airports Council International, which bases its decision on passenger reviews of airports around the world. As the Airports Council International’s Airport Service Quality Awards have become the international benchmark for best practice at airports, this bids very well for Cape Town. Not only does this accolade provide Cape Town International Airport and the city with international recognition and exposure, but further serves to strengthen Cape Town’s position as a world-class travel destination,’ says Grove.

Western Cape MEC Alan Winde said the award is a result of excellent team work on the ground and praised the combined efforts of ACSA (Airports Company South Africa), provincial government and the local tourism authorities.

Cape Town International Airport is the 3rd largest in Africa and is South Africa's 2nd largest airport (O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is in 1st place). The airport went through a major refurbishment in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and many travellers will agree that Cape Town International Airport can certainly compete with the best in the world.

The city of Cape Town has been chosen as World Design Capital 2014, and certainly the staff at Cape Town International Airport are honing their skills to continue to provide a warm welcome for visitors from both near and far.
