FILDA proved to be an exceptional platform for South African Tourism, allowing us to extend and entrench mutually beneficial relationships with the Angolan trade. - Phumi Dhlomo, Regional Director: Africa at South African Tourism.

Following an inaugural visit and exhibition at Angola’s leading leisure tourism show, the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), South African Tourism has been recognised as the leading participator in the Tourism and Hospitality category.  The organisation scooped the coveted Golden Lion award, following a week-long series of engaging product showcases aimed at enticing Angolans to consider South Africa as the leisure destination of choice.

“FILDA proved to be an exceptional platform for South African Tourism, allowing us to extend and entrench mutually beneficial relationships with the Angolan trade,” says Phumi Dhlomo, Regional Director: Africa at South African Tourism.  “The fact that we were acknowledged as a leading participator in our category affirms our goal of delivering a South African showcase that truly engaged and captivated delegates attending the fair.”

South African Tourism’s involvement at FILDA included a diverse selection of truly authentic South African experiences, represented by some of the country’s top hotel and accommodation chains, such as Southern Sun, Sun International and Sandton Intercontinental.  Joining these exhibitors was a group of travel companies, focusing on out of the ordinary experiences available to Angolan travellers.  Altogether, the South African Tourism platform demonstrated the country’s cosmopolitan lifestyle offerings, while showing the distinct South African spirit that the Angolans have come to love.

“FILDA was but a small part of our commitment to extending our communication with the Angolan trade community,” concludes Dhlomo.  “With the recent appointment of a full-time Head of Trade Relations, Carolina Guerra, we can look forward to engaging with stakeholders to continue building on the growth of leisure and business travel by Angolans, to South Africa.”
