South African Tourism France welcomed about 200 guests at the InterContinental Hotel, Avenue Marceau, Paris, last Wednesday, for its third Ubuntu Awards ceremony, in the presence of Deputy Minister for Tourism Ms. Thokozile Xasa, her Excellency Ms. Dolana Msimang, South African Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France, CMO Ms. Roshene Singh, and Paris CM Ms. Linda Sangaret.

This ceremony recognises the Trade engagement in France towards South Africa as a destination.

During the evening, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Paris CM both awarded the 2011 Ubuntu Awards to the following partners: Voyageurs du Monde, Kuoni, Donatello, FRAM, Carlson Wagonlit Voyages and Opodo. Gabriel Taher, Trade Manager, was awarded the prize for Employee of the Year of the Paris office.

“It was important for me to be here tonight to personally thank the Trade in France, whose work greatly contributes to the success of the destination. Tourism is a priority to the South African government as it represents an important income for the country and creates numerous jobs”, declared Deputy Minister for Tourism Ms. Thokozile Xasa.

“South Africa showed an increase of 15.1% in the number of international tourists in 2010 and we will ensure this enthusiasm for our country continues. With the World Cup, we were able to let the world discover South Africa and our objective today is to show the world that there is more to discover in our country”, she added.

During the South African cocktail dinner buffet, guests enjoyed a concert by Sam Tshabalala and his musicians. Everyone received a DVD “Mon histoire sud-africaine” (My South African Story) featuring the stories of 10 French travellers on a discovery trip of South Africa.
