We are honoured to be voted onto this influential list of the world’s best destinations, by these selective world travellers. We know our guests are actively seeking out destinations that offer something special - a more natural style of luxury, along with an experience that is highly personalised, enriching and in fact, even life changing. - Luke Bailes, CEO of Singita Game Reserves.

South African hotels and lodges continue to rake in international awards for excellence on the world stage.

The recent Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards yet again recognised a number of local properties in their Top 100 Travel Experiences category. The lodges at Phinda Private Game Reserve shared 3rd place with The Four Seasons Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. This is no mean feat as more than 8 million votes were cast by some 28 876 Conde Nast Traveler readers in the run-up to the announcement of the winners.

The lodges in the Sabi Sand Reserve in Mpumalanga also held their own. Londolozi Game Reserve and the lodges at Singita Sabi Sand were on the list, sharing 26th place, and The Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve came in at number 29 with Mala Mala Game Reserve holding its own in 93rd place. The Steenberg Hotel in Cape Town claimed 42nd place on the Top 100 Travel Experiences list and Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa claimed its place at number 99.

Steenberg Hotel also made it to the top of the list of the Best Hotels - Africa & the Middle East category - taking 1st place. The Saxon came 2nd and the Cape Grace was placed 3rd.

In the Best Resorts Category for Africa & the Middle East, the Safari Lodges at Phinda Private Game Reserve walked off with 1st place and Cape Town was also voted No 1 City in Africa and the Middle East.

It was also recently announced that Singita Boulders Lodge in the Sabi Sand Reserve walked off with honours in the Andrew Harper’s Report 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards in the UK. Singita Boulders placed in the Top 20 International Hideaways Category - the only African property to make it onto the list.

Luke Bailes, CEO of Singita Game Reserves commented: ‘We are honoured to be voted onto this influential list of the world’s best destinations, by these selective world travellers. We know our guests are actively seeking out destinations that offer something special - a more natural style of luxury, along with an experience that is highly personalised, enriching and in fact, even life changing.’

No doubt these international accolades will continue to highlight South Africa’s luxury properties and will further attract high-end travellers to visit the country.
