Wine and music tours at the Solms-Delta wine estate on the outskirts of Franschhoek are highly recommended for oenophiles interested in the Cape’s musical heritage and unconventional wines.
During the Solms-Delta wine and music experience, resident maestros Adriaan Brand and Les Javan take guests on a musical journey through rural Cape music where the origins and heritage of Cape vernacular music are explained.
Guests are treated to a unique experience where they get to sip a wine named after a particular style of vernacular music, played by Les and Adriaan, and watch the accompanying dance being performed by the tasting room staff. Usually, after a few sips of Solms-Delta’s heritage-inspired libations even the shyest guests find themselves boogying to the San-inspired rhythms.
Classical winelands music concerts take place in a historic wine cellar on La Motte’s wine estate in Franschhoek. Performances by local and international soloists, and ensembles span from Medieval to Modern eras of classical music.
Programmes are compiled to ensure that both purists and mainstream classical music fans will leave delighted - after a few glasses of estate wine and a light finger supper. Popular themed concerts at La Motte include French music at Bastille festival time, an Easter concert, and choral music at Christmas.
Encircled by tall grove of Eucalyptus trees, the Paul Cluver wine estate in Elgin is the place to be for winelands music events in summer. Beneath starry skies, lovers of music of all ages gather for a night of Bacchanalian bliss to listen to unplugged performances by contemporary South African and overseas artists, while picnicking, and sipping Paul Cluver’s range of biodynamic wines.
