One of the greatest ways to experience the Stellenbosch wine route is by using Vinehopper, a hop-on, hop-off vehicle service. A R200 day pass gives you access to 6 different wine estates. You decide where you want to go, how long you would like to stay there, and pay for your own tastings, tours or activities as you go.
Vinehopper offers 2 routes. The Southern Route includes a visit to Vredenheim; a brandy tasting tour at the Van Ryn's brandy distillery, where you will be showed the ancient art of barrel making; a visit to the birds-of-prey rehabilitation centre at Eagle Encounters; and a visit to Kleine Zalze and Alto, where you can sample delicious wines amid the magnificent Stellenbosch mountains.
The Northern Route includes visits to Bergkelder with its spectacular cellars, and Beyerskloof, where you can try some Pinotage. You can enjoy great views at Knorhoek and great wine at Simonsig, and end the day with a glass of Spatzendreck at Delheim.
