Gliding across Muningi Gorge in Cullinan

Cullinan, a small mining town just outside Pretoria, may be famous for being the place where the world’s largest diamond was found. But there’s another gem hidden nearby ...

Gliding over Maningi Gorge

Thrill-seekers will find a treasure trove of outdoor adventures within Muningi Gorge, situated just 12km outside picturesque Cullinan.

The zipline allows people to take in the area’s natural beauty without having an impact on the landscape.

Daily trips into the gorge are conducted by GorgeGlide Xtreme Zipline tours, offering outdoor enthusiasts adventures like 'extreme ziplining' and abseiling down the gorge rock face.

We joined GorgeGlide marketing manager Helgaard Jordaan for an exhilarating afternoon soaring high above the pristine bushveld landscape, from one side of the gorge to the other and back again.

'The zipline outing consists of four extreme zipline slides, which take about an hour-and-a-half to complete,' he tells us before we make the bumpy drive to the first slide a few kilometres away.

Ziplining is a great day out for adrenalin junkies

Jordaan also explains that the gorge is home to a large number of animal species, some of them endangered, like the African rock python.

You’ll also encounter abundant birdlife, kudu, klipspringer, dassie, eland, zebra, baboons, and even a resident pair of shy otters, which inhabit the larger pools at the bottom of the gorge.

The zipline allows people to take in the area’s natural beauty without having an impact on the landscape.
