Tour against hunger

I have a passion for food, as evidenced by my waistline. Cooking, food and all things delicious and delightful, after all, is what makes my world turn.

I like to share my devotion to all things culinary. Weekends are mostly taken up with picking herbs from the garden, cooking, baking, steaming and sipping champagne in anticipation of my guests arriving for a feast. Apparently my get-togethers are legendary. Frankly I think it’s not just about the food. But that’s another subject.

I think the Worldwide Chefs Against Hunger initiative, on right now, is brilliant. After all, don’t we want everyone to be nurtured?

Go on - nurture and be nurtured: book a table at one of the Southern Sun Hotels around the country and indulge in the culinary heritage and specialty dishes from other countries such as Poland, Romania, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and many others. And don’t forget our very own culinary feasts, of course.

The idea is that we will join hands - in a matter of speaking - with top chefs from around the world in order to raise funds for those not as blessed as we are. These feasts take place around the country 21 - 30 August 2011 as part of the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger.

On the menu are prawns from Mozambique, bacalhau a minhota from Portugal, nasi lemak from Malaysia, Blinis from Russia, or deliciousness from the Netherlands (just a taster from some of the countries all strongly represented at this initiative).

Special events and offers at the participating venues, are also top international chefs in action at Hyde Park Shopping Centre, Monecasino Piazza in Fourways, Suncoast in Durban, Riverside Shopping Centre in Mbombela, Hemingways in East London and Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Download the 1993 hit song from the last World Chefs Tour Against Hunger, or Sing Children Sing, which PJ Powers has re-recorded, buy a Chef’s hat for R10 to show your support and most importantly, encourage your company to buy a table at the gala fundraising dinners around the country.

See you there.

NOTE: A must-have is a print of the official 2011 Tour painting by well-known ‘foodie’ artist Frans Groenewald. The original and four canvasses will be auctioned at the gala dinners.

The website address are www.southernsun.com and www.worldchefstour.com. To book, call 011 482 7250. It’s truly worth it.
