Fans of beach touch rugby can catch the Four Cousins Hot Summer of Touch, which takes place at some the Western Cape’s most popular beaches during December.
Anyone interested in entering a team for any of the 7 events, can do so online. The entry fee is R200 per team, payable on the day and squads can consist of up to 12 players. For information about rules and refereeing, visit www.touchrugby.co.za.
More than 400 teams entered this series in 2009, with just as many expected this time round.
The first event takes place on the soft, white sandy beaches of Muizenberg, on December 11, followed by an event in Strand on December 16 - a public holiday.
There are 8 teams that compete in the Pro Series, a competition for the more established touch rugby players. The skills and fitness levels of players in this league is very impressive and the matches are well worth watching.
Beach touch rugby is a popular social activity in South Africa, with matches randomly starting up wherever there is an oval ball and a few keen participants.
