The Science of Sport

South Africa is a sports-mad nation, so it makes sense that we have our very own Sports Science Institute (SSISA). The Institute is located in the suburb of Newlands in Cape Town and has been around since 1994. It was the brainchild of rugby hero Morne Du Plessis, Professor Tim Noakes and Johann Rupert and is aimed at building a healthy nation and providing a space to increase the excellence levels of South Africa’s sporting fraternity. The great thing is that the Institute is also aimed at ordinary people (not just uber-athletes) and there are regular talks and workshops on how to keep fit and healthy (as well as a dedicated healthy weight programme). Don’t miss out on the 7th Vitality Wellness and Fitness Convention that takes place at the SSI on the 5th of May 2011 - it’s bound to provide some inspiration for those of us in need of a pick-me-up.
