The new generation spa man

Traditionally spas have been a women’s domain but an increasing number of South African men are discovering that spa treatments can be an effective way to not only brush up on their grooming, but to unwind and manage stress as well as spend quality time with their partners.

As a result, many spas and salons now offer a variety of packages aimed at couples and at men exclusively. Whether it is sports massage to ease aches and pains or relieve tension, or grooming-focussed treatments like pedicures, manicures and brow-shaping, most spas are geared to accommodate male clients.

In fact, South Africa has a small but increasing offering aimed exclusively at men. Here male clients can relax in a more masculine environment where they can enjoy a cappuccino or beer, watch the game on a big-screen TV and have a hot shave, massage, facial or something as simple as a beard trim. These salons and spas offer world-class therapists and top professional skincare and hair brands including the likes of Dermalogica, Clarins, Thalgo Men and Redken.

Some have also moved to include medispa treatments like Botox and filler injections using Restylane and Juvederm, which are performed by medical experts.

Whether it’s a bush spa retreat or professional grooming in a slick urban setting, South Africa offers even the most discerning male travellers an array of spa and salon treatments to meet their needs.
