The Darling Wine Shop

Head to the West Coast town of Darling – an absolute must for wine lovers.

The West Coast town of Darling has attractions aplenty, not the least of which is its surrounding winelands, which produce a rich variety of top quality wines, with bush vine Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz the stars of the region.

Aptly called the Darling Wine Shop, the venture brings all the region’s major wine producers together under 1 roof.

Unlike the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine regions, where the estates are packed cheek-by-jowl, Darling’s handful of winemakers are scattered across the plains of Malmesbury in different directions.

So the Darling Wine Shop, which opened its doors in late November 2011, is an absolute win for wine lovers wanting to get their hands on Darling’s best.

While it’s only a 30-minute drive (approximately) between most of Darling’s wine estates, if you’re like me and you want to chat to all and sundry, and taste as many wines as possible before heading off to lunch, you’ll know that plans to visit more than 2 or 3 estates are soon laid to waste.

So the Darling Wine Shop, which opened its doors in late November 2011, is an absolute win for wine lovers wanting to get their hands on Darling’s best.

The shop stocks all the local producers: Cloof, Darling Cellars, Groote Post, Ormonde, Tukulu, Withington, and if you’re in luck, perhaps a bottle or 3 of The Yair, an exceptional sauvignon blanc produced by Tullie Family Vineyards.

If you lack the time to trek from estate to estate, or if the Darling region is wholly unfamiliar to you, then visit the Darling Wine Shop.  Free tastings, expert advice, mixed cases, and door-to-door freight delivery, locally and internationally, are just some of the reasons this shop is, well, darling….
