Table Mountain, one of the contenders for the New7Wonders of Nature, offers a variety of adventure activities throughout the year, allowing Cape Town residents and visitors the opportunity to experience an outdoor adrenalin rush just a few kilometers from the city centre.

The adventure options on Table Mountain include:

Abseiling

The world’s highest commercial abseil features a 112m descent down the face of Table Mountain. Tickets are around R600 excluding the Cableway ride to the top.

For more information, phone Abseil Africa on +27 (0)21 424 4760 or email info@abseilafrica.co.za

Table Mountain, which has recently attracted celebrities such as actor Blair Underwood, WWE wrestler Justin Gabriel and RnB singer Ne-Yo, is very worthy of a spot among the New7Wonders of Nature.

Mountain Biking

Rent a mountain bike from one of the many bicyle rental stores in the Cape Town City Centre, and try out some of the demarcated routes on the lower section of the mountain, such as the Rollercoaster, which starts from the lower Cableway station.

If you’d like a guided mountain biking tour of Table Mountain, phone Downhill Adventures on +27 (0)21 422 0388 or email bookings@downhilladventures.com.

Hiking

There are numerous hiking routes on Table Mountain. For a challenging half-day hike, start from Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens and work your way steadily up to the summit. For a more direct and intense hike, take the Platteklip Gorge route from the lower Cableway station.

Table Mountain, which has recently attracted celebrities such as actor Blair Underwood, WWE wrestler Justin Gabriel and RnB singer Ne-Yo, is very worthy of a spot among the New7Wonders of Nature. You can play your part by voting online and if you’re in South Africa, you can vote by texting “Table” to 34874 or by using MXit.

Voting closes on November 11, 2011.
