Stand Up Paddling anyone?

You know about adrenalin-filled kite-surfing and wind-surfing, but have you heard of the latest craze to hit South African shores - Stand Up Paddling or SUPing?

It’s known as Hoe he’e nalu in the Hawaiian language because Hawaii is where it all started when surfing teachers stood up on their boards so that they could see all their students more easily.

It’s easy to learn - unlike surfing - after an hour or so you should feel quite confident on your board, and the girls take to it like ducks to water because they often have a lower centre of gravity than guys.

Joluka is the place in Johannesburg to get expert advice and be taken off for lessons. You don’t even have to go the coast because there are plenty of good dams nearby - Emmerentia, Bronkhorstspruit and Hartebeestpoort.

If you want to test yourself further, than try kiteboarding. Joluka will also teach you and fit you out.
