Location, location, location is really what it's all about. Well that, and good food. And The Plettenberg hotel along the Garden Route overachieves in both departments.

This elegant hotel is situated over the ocean – the combination of its rimless pool, the ocean and the sky almost hurts the eyes in it's blueness.

Part of the Liz McGrath Collection of hotels (Liz McGrath is a doyenne of the South African hospitality industry), The Plettenberg waves the South African flag high, and it's not surprising that international guests love the place. They also love the food.

SeaFood at The Plettenberg restaurant has been running since October. We asked Tronette Dippenaar, the head chef, about it...

What is the concept all about?
It is a fresh and vibrant new restaurant specialising mainly in fresh locally sourced seafood (with non-SeaFood at The Plettenberg Collection Signature dishes as an alternative). SeaFood at The Plettenberg offers the option of dinner or lunch on our terrace, weather permitting, with amazing views of the Keurbooms Beach and Tsitsikamma mountains. It has been well received by local and international guests.

How has the concept grown/changed since the launch?
The number of locals dining at SeaFood at The Plettenberg has increased month on month. Our in-house guests would rather dine in during their stay than visit other alternative restaurants in the area.

In your view, what are the highlights on the menu?
The Mossel Bay sole is very popular, served with mashed potato and champagne and leek velouté; the lobster thermidor is a hit, as is the crispy fishcake with a twist.

How does the SeaFood at The Plettenberg menu set you apart from other establishments in the area?
The menu has variety of unique dishes to choose from, which caters for everybody’s taste. We source only the best organic products available in the area and fresh seafood is delivered on a daily basis.
